Eight Suspects Arrested For Cult Clash In Lagos
The police have arrested eight suspects after a fight broke out between two rivalry cult groups in Itire area of Lagos State.
The spokesman for the State Police Command, Mr Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday that the arrest was made following a distress call of a fire outbreak at a hotel in the area.
He explained that a combined team of policemen and firefighters was mobilised to the scene of the incident on Saturday last week and the fire was eventually put off.
According to Elkana, preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was set by some members of the cult groups – Eiye and Aiye confraternity – who clashed at a drinking joint in the hotel.
“Trouble started at about 2200 hours when a hot argument ensued between members of two rival gangs in the joint.
“The son of the owner of the hotel, who is now at large was said to have stabbed a member of a rival gang identified as Aliu Lamidi ‘m’ 29 years old of Aboredhade Street, on the neck,” he said.
The command’s spokesman added, “The victim was rushed to hospital where he eventually died. Three vehicles that were parked by the roadside also burned.”
He said security has been beefed up in the affected area while the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation was completed.
