Twins name Berrios Opening Day starter

Jose Berrios will start on Opening Day, the Minnesota Twins announced on Monday.

The Twins’ open the regular season Thursday, March 28 against the Cleveland Indians at Target Field.

It’s the first Opening Day nod of Berrios’ major-league career.

An All-Star in 2018, Berrios was among the Twins’ best starters last year, finishing with a 3.84 ERA and a 1.144 WHIP in 32 starts and 192 1/3 innings pitched.

The third-year right-hander started the Twins’ third game of the season last year, pitching the first complete game of his career, allowing just three hits in a 7-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

A first-round pick of the Twins in 2012, the 24-year-old pitched two complete games last year, leading Minnesota’s rotation with 202 strikeouts.
