No. 21 Texas women beat TCU 66-64, advance to Big 12 semis

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Danni Williams had 20 points and Sug Sutton scored 10 of her 15 in the fourth quarter to help No. 21 Texas beat TCU 66-64 on Saturday night and advance to the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament.

Sutton added nine rebounds, five assists and two steals while Jatarie White had 14 points and nine boards for No. 3 seed Texas (23-8). The Longhorns will play second-seeded and No. 19 Iowa State in Sunday’s semifinals. Texas split its season series with the Cyclones with each team losing on its home court.

Dakota Vann converted a 3-point play to give No. 6 seed TCU (20-10) a six-point lead early in the fourth quarter. Williams answered with a 3-pointer, White made a short jumper and Sutton hit two free throws in a 7-0 spurt that made it 53-52 with five minutes remaining. There were three lead changes and two ties before Sutton hit a jumper then stole it from Vann and made to layup to give Texas a four-point lead with 54 seconds to play.

Jordan Moore hit two free throws to pull the Horned Frogs within two and then made a steal. After a missed 3-point shot, Moore grabbed the offensive rebound and Lauren Heard was fouled with 3.6 seconds to go but made just 1 of 2 from the stripe. Williams capped the scoring with a free about a second later.

Amy Okonkwo led TCU with 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. The Horned Frogs a 3-43 all-time against Texas.
