Ferguson sparks UIC to a 90-83 overtime win at Youngstown St
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Tarkus Ferguson scored six of his 10 points in overtime as Illinois-Chicago opened the second half of the Horizon League schedule by erasing a nine-point second-half deficit and beating Youngstown State 90-83 in overtime on Thursday night.
The Flames and Penguins split their season series. Youngstown State earned a 70-64 victory in Chicago in December.
The Penguins took the lead on a Naz Bohannon layin with 8:17 left in the game and they held a nine-point lead with 3:43 left in regulation after Jelani Simmons dunked. But Youngstown State did not score again until Garrett Covington hit the first of two free throws to make it 71-68. Godwin Boahen’s 3 with :27 remaining in regulation pulled UIC even at 75-75 and forced overtime.
Marcus Ottey scored 22 points and Braelen Bridges scored 20 , grabbed six rebounds and dished four assists for UIC (10-13, 5-5). Michael Diggins added 18 points and Boahen contributed 13 off the bench.
Bohannon led Youngstown State (12-11, 5-5) with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Darius Quisenberry scored 16 points and dished five assists and Devin Morgan added 13 points.
UIC is at Cleveland State Saturday. Youngstown State hosts IUPUI Saturday.
