We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Medical Officer

Job Summary

  • To provide alongside other clinical colleagues, appropriate and qualitative Primary Care services to Hospital clients/patients in order to diagnose and treat various injuries, illnesses & diseases.
  • This role supports the Hospital’s Mission of total patient management by leveraging modern technology, the best in human capital, robust network collaboration and teamwork to drive the process of excellent care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical:

  • Work in close co-operation with and support other clinical & medical professionals and colleagues across the Organization to provide Primary Care Services to the Hospital’s patients and referred clients form other hospitals & clinics as follows: Urgent medical and nursing services (including resuscitation, stabilization and assessment and diagnosis, treatment and referral as necessary); assessing the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, examination and investigation.
  • Recommending and, where appropriate, undertaking treatment options and carrying out/referring for appropriate interventions and procedures, including but not limited to prescribing, minor surgery and other general practice procedures, counselling, psychological interventions, advising and education.
  • Making appropriate referrals for diagnostic, therapeutic and support services as required.
  • Participate and support the total management of patients in the wards by assisting with the clerking of cases and performing of minor procedures.
  • Contribute to the timeliness of performing and reporting all patient examinations.
  • Take assigned Call Duty as per Hospital/Department guidelines.
  • Undertake all work in accordance with contractual requirements and the Hospital’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.

Administration:

  • Timely completion and input of required patient documentation in the Hospital’s Patient Information Record system
  • Attend and participate in various departmental and non-functional meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with Management in the efficient running of St. Helen’s Hospital General Medicine Services and the Hospital in general.

Quality and Standards:

  • Develop and maintain good work practices for their assigned Department and the Hospital in general.
  • Establish, maintain & actively promote quality-related goals and Departmental compliance to Organizational and professional standards of conduct and practice.
  • Provide medical information from the Radiology Department’s experiences for the development of systems to support the Organization’s service delivery quality and standards.

Safety:

  • Consistently exercise a general duty of care for the health, safety and wellbeing of work colleagues, visitors and patients and oneself.

People Management & Personal Development:

  • Actively contribute to the training & development of departmental staff and colleagues when required.
  • Be responsible for own personal development by attending accredited conferences and meetings to update one’s clinical knowledge, coaching and management skills in line with CME requirement.

Education, Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: MBBS/MBBCH from a recognized institution; plus, a minimum of 5 years’ broad post-qualification experience in Radiology including plain film reporting, barium studies, ultrasound, CT and MRI.
  • Valid Medical Practice Licence.
  • Post Graduate Studies
  • Must be a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, NPMCN or it’s foreign equivalent.
  • Previous Experience
  • Knowledgeable of the latest technological advances in Diagnostic & Therapeutic Radiology.
