COVID-19: Police Arrest Two Govt Officials For Allegedly Violating Restriction Order

Two top government officials of the Nasarawa State Government have been arrested for allegedly violating the restriction placed on public and social gatherings in the state by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The officials arrested by the State Police Command are the overseer of Lafia North development Area, Suleiman Agyo and the Acting Registrar of Isa Mustapha Agwai (formerly Nasarawa Polytechnic) in Lafia, Mukhtar Wakeel.

Agyo’s arrest follows the wedding he had earlier which went viral.

He married a second wife at Lungun Wambai area of Lafia, the state capital.

The wedding ceremony prompted the police to arrest the bride, his friend, Wakeel who both featured in the video.

The state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Abdulkarim Kana confirmed the arrest said the trio to channels television.

According to him, the two of them passed the night in detention at “A” Division of the police command and investigation is ongoing.

“The proclamation by the Governor is binding on everybody, no matter how highly placed one is in society.”

“The violators would continue to be in detention, they would be charged to court immediately the courts resume,” Kana said.

Also reacting to the arrest, the state commissioner of Police, Bola Longe said the two government officials have been granted bail and will be charged to court on Tuesday.

According to Longe, over 300 persons have been arrested for violating restrictions put in place by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
