Project Accountant at Women Friendly Initiative (WFI)
Women Friendly Initiative (WFI) is premised on providing succor to the less privileged. Since incorporation in 2003, we have programmed in several areas ranging from health; sexual &reproductive health, sanitation/hygiene promotion, maternal and child survival initiatives, integration of family planning with HIV prevention among positive clients environmental sustainability, health systems strengthening, human development, civic education, good governance (empowering women for electioneering positions)education especially for the girl child, vocational skill acquisition, functional literacy, income generation &economic empowerment for Indigent women in rural &urban slums across several states in Nigeria.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Project Accountant
Location: Kuje, Abuja
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Key Performance Indicators
- Program Management – USAID “Youth-Powered Ecosystem to Advance Urban Adolescent Health and Well-Being in Nigeria.” Project – (50%)
- WFI other project financial management – (50%)
Details
The successful candidate will:
- Work with the CEO, DOP and DAI to co-ordinate all financial transactions and operations, such that funds are provided to facilitate timely and smooth operations
- Ensure staff and consultants pay mandatory taxes (PAYE and WHT respectively) and same are remitted to appropriate bodies
- Produce and submit financial reports on projects to DAI, or the consortium as regularly as requested
- Prepare the various organization’s financial reports at regular intervals (monthly, quarter, half-year, annual) and Income/Expenditure, Balance Sheet and facilitate the process of auditing WFI’s accounts
- Check /Verify requests for payments, and purchase orders, prior to payment run, to ascertain whether sufficient project funding is available and that requests are charged to correct budget lines
- Prepare accurate and timely project financial reports
- Monitor organizational cash flow and deal with fund transfer request by donors in a timely manner whilst ensuring proper liquidation of previous advances
- Responsible for filling all organizational and donors’ financial returns in a systematic and secure manner for proper audit trail and easy retrieval
- Attend to queries regarding project reports/budgets in a timely manner to avoid delays to project plans attributable to late processing
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting, Economics or related course with strong NGO experience.
Experience, Skills, and Minimum Qualifications
- Commitment to WFI’s core values and ideology.
- Passion for working with youth
- Minimum of three years’ post NYSC work experience in Accounting / Finance related role
- Previous experience in managing donor funds and supporting partner organizations working on USAID funded project
- Strong knowledge and experience applying USAID finance, procurement, contracting and grant management regulations.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly Excel & Word (MS Office in general)
- Strong working knowledge of one or more accountancy software applications (QuickBooks accounting package especially)
- Commitment to WFI’s core values and ideology.
