Medical Sociologist at Idmibok International (360HSDC) – Nationwide

Idmibok International, also known as 360 HSDC is a health community-based organization registered in Nigeria, that works in a targeted yet comprehensive manner to address critical health, institutional and development related issues. 360 HSDC achieves this by collaborating with global and local development and private entities, such as governments, bilateral and multilateral donors, nongovernmental organizations and the private sector. The organization has a multifaceted team of experts with proficiency and experience in emergency environments, humanitarian activities and development in diverse environments and ecosystems, globally and across Africa, including in South Sudan, and extensively in Nigeria.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Medical Sociologist

Location: Nationwide

Job Overview

  • This is a consultancy for a proposal the organization is working on. The Medical Sociologist is responsible for monitoring the impact of social and cultural factors on health care
  • This work includes studying the access to medical care of different ethnic groups and social classes and the ways that broader socioeconomic factors shape the organizational structures used by healthcare providers
  • S/He would assist physicians, or intermediate care providers, and other team members in understanding the social and emotional factors related to the health problem
  • S/He would be responsible for the development of the plan of care and the preparation of clinical and progress notes.

Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate the organization’s services with the services of other community resources, use community resources.
  • Participate in in-services and continuing education programs.
  • Be a consultant to other organization personnel.
  • Be a resource person to employees, patients, physicians, and other allied healthcare providers.
  • Develop a cooperative relationship and communicate with physicians.
  • Immediately report any accident, incident, lost articles, or unusual occurrence to the Supervisor.
  • Participate in staff meetings and patient care conferences as scheduled.
  • Maintain contact with community support groups and provide professional expertise.
  • Coordinate social services within the organization.
  • Help develop the plan of care; ensure that the patient plan of care includes identified problems, interventions, and goals.
  • Participate in community activities and promote community awareness and support.
  • Provide psychosocial services following established standards. Evaluate the quality of psychosocial services provided.
  • Inform the Supervisor of changes in the patient’s condition and needs.
  • Schedule patient visits according to patient needs and as physician orders.
  • Observe confidentiality and safeguards all patient-related information.
  • Attend staff meetings and patient care conferences as scheduled.
  • Participate in peer review and activities.
  • Report all incomplete work assignments to the Supervisor.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • May have a Master’s Degree in Sociology.
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or other field related to Social Work, and has had at least one-year experience in a health care setting (functions as an assistant),
  • 3 or more years experience, preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing monitoring and/or evaluation frameworks or methodologies for strategic plans;
  • Demonstrable experience in conducting research funded by large donor organisations
  • One (1) year experience in-home care, preferred.
