The 34-year-old Gearrin was signed by Minnesota as a minor-league free agent in mid-February and was with the Twins on their road trip in Kansas City as a member of their taxi squad.
Gearrin has appeared in 336 major-league games over nine seasons, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.315 WHIP and 8.4 K/9. This will be his sixth team since 2018, having pitched for San Francisco, Texas and Oakland two years ago and Seattle and the New York Yankees in 2019.
Poppen pitched twice for the Twins this season, including two innings in Saturday’s loss to the Royals.
