Cordero undergoes season-ending wrist surgery; Royals call up Guzmán
Kansas City Royals outfielder Franchy Cordero had successful wrist surgery Tuesday but is out for the season.
Cordero, 25, did not play after being scratched from the lineup Aug. 5 because of tightness in his wrist during batting practice. He was placed on the injured list Sunday, transferred to the 60-day IL on Monday and then underwent surgery to repair a broken right hamate bone.
Cordero was obtained from San Diego on July 16 and played in 11 games with the Royals, batting .154 with two RBIs in 26 at-bats.
The Royals filled his roster spot by recalling infielder Jeison Guzmán recalled from the team’s alternate training site.
