Minnesota added left-hander Lewis Thorpe as the 29th man for the day, designated left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe for assignment and selected the contract of right-hander Juan Minaya.
Thorpe, who is a candidate to start the second game for the Twins on Friday, was on the road trip as part of the team’s Taxi Squad. He’s allowed 10 runs in 14 2/3 innings (6.14 ERA) with nine walks and nine strikeouts this season.
Coulombe was called up to the Twins on Saturday and yielded just two hits and no runs across 2 2/3 innings with three walks and three strikeouts.
Signed to a minor-league deal in the offseason, Minaya registered a 3.93 ERA and 10.0 K/9 in 128 1/3 career innings with the Chicago White Sox from 2016-19. In 2019, the 29-year-old allowed 10.1 hits and 1.3 homers per nine innings while whiffing 27 batters in 27 2/3 frames.
