Rangers trade Mike Minor to Oakland
The following is a press release from the Texas Rangers:
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has acquired two players to be named later along with international slot compensation in exchange for left-handed pitcher Mike Minor and cash considerations.
Minor, who signed a three-year contract with the Rangers on December 6, 2017, finishes with a 26-23 record and 4.00 ERA over 67 games/starts with Texas over the past three seasons. He ranks among all-time Texas leaders (minimum 300.0 innings) in strikeouts per 9 innings (4th, 8.24), WHIP (7th, 1.203), and opponent batting average (8th, .241). He has a 0-5 record and 5.60 ERA over 7 games/starts in 2020.
The 2019 Texas Rangers Pitcher of the Year, Minor set career highs in wins (14), innings (208.1), and strikeouts (200) last season, when he was selected to the All-Star Game for the first time. In 2018-19, he became just the fifth pitcher in Rangers history to post back-to-back seasons of 28-or-more starts, an ERA under 4.20, and a WHIP figure of less than 1.240. The others on that list were Ferguson Jenkins (1974-75), Gaylord Perry (1976-77), Charlie Hough (1985-86), and Nolan Ryan (1989-90).
