The Brewers signed Phelps to a one-year deal in free agency worth $1.5 million with a club option for 2021.
In 12 appearances with the Brewers this season, Phelps registered a 2.77 ERA, 11.4 K/9 and 2.2 K/BB. Opponents were batting .156 against Phelps in 13 innings of work.
Philadelphia will be Phelps’ sixth team he’s played for in eight MLB seasons. He made his major-league debut with the New York Yankees in 2012 and has also spent time with Miami, Seattle, Toronto and the Chicago Cubs. Phelps has logged a 17-15 record, 4.15 ERA and 8.2 K/9 in 325 1/3 career innings.
The three players acquired by the Brewers are reportedly lower-level prospects. Players not currently on the 60-man roster of MLB teams can’t be named in trades until after the season.
