Cards place Fowler on IL, activate Ravelo among other moves
Dexter Fowler, perhaps the most consistent of the St. Louis Cardinals’ outfielders at the plate this season, has been placed on the injured list, the team announced Wednesday.
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Fowler was placed on the IL because his immune system could be compromised by medication he’s taking, a potentially dangerous situation with COVID-19 not yet under control in the United States. Goold reports that Fowler could be out for a couple of weeks.
#stlcards put Fowler on IL because he’s taking medication that may compromise his immune system, and due to COVID-19 precautions they want to be careful. He’ll be out for a couple of weeks. Updates coming here: https://t.co/5GTZ80CMHo #Cardinals

Fowler, 34, is batting .279 with four home runs (tied for the team lead) and 14 RBIs (second on the team) this season. The right fielder has reached base safely in 19 of his 23 games.
Taking Fowler’s roster spot is infielder Rangel Ravelo, who was activated from the injured list. Ravelo, 28, was among 10 Cardinals players who tested positive for COVID-19. He has played in one game this season, on July 29 at Minnesota.
The team made two other roster moves, recalling left-hander Rob Kaminsky from the alternate training site in Springfield and optioning right-hander Ryan Meisinger to Springfield.
Kaminsky, who turned 26 Wednesday, has pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts for St. Louis in 2020.
Meisinger, 26, has pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts for the Cardinals this season, including a scoreless inning in Tuesday night’s win in Cincinnati.
