Royals option McBroom, recall Heath and reinstate Gutierrez from IL
The Kansas City Royals made a slew of roster moves on Saturday including optioning Ryan McBroom to the alternate site.
McBroom sports a .253 average with five homers in 79 plate appearances but he’s struggled as of late, going 1-for-20 over his last 10 games.
The Royals recalled speedster Nick Heath from the alternate site and reinstated infielder Kelvin Gutierrez from the IL. Infielder Matt Reynolds was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
Guiterrez has yet to appear in 2020 as a right elbow sprain has sidelined him. The third baseman hit .260 with one home run in 20 games for the Royals last season.
Righty Alec Marsh was added to the alternate site and the team released right-hander Ofriedy Gomez.
The Royals completed a July 21st trade by sending outfield prospect Michael Gigliotti to the Tampa Bay Rays. The deal allowed the Royals to maintain control over Rule 5 draft pick Stephen Woods Jr., who they selected from the Rays’ system last winter.
