Sporting’s match canceled after Minnesota players test positive for COVID-19
Major League Soccer canceled the Sporting Kansas City game scheduled Sunday night at Children’s Mercy Park after two Minnesota United players tested positive for COVID-19.
Sporting (11-6-3) was set to take on Minnesota (8-5-6) in a battle of top-tier Western Conference teams.
Kansas City clinched a playoff berth with a 1-0 win over Cincinnati on Wednesday, and is currently in first place in the Western Conference with 36 points. Minnesota is not far behind with 30 points.
The MLS says due to a limited number of match dates left in the season the game will not be rescheduled. Since not all teams will have completed their 23 scheduled matches, qualifications for the playoffs will be based on points per game.
