Brewers reliever Williams named 2020 NL Rookie of the Year
The accolades for Milwaukee Brewers reliever Devin Williams continue to roll in.
The 26-year-old was named the 2020 National League Rookie of the Year on Monday, beating out two other finalists — Philadelphia third baseman Alec Bohm and San Diego infielder Jake Cronenworth — in balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Williams appeared in 22 contests for Milwaukee and allowed just one earned run on eight hits in 27 innings pitched. He fanned 53 of the 100 batters faced and walked nine. Williams registered a 0.33 ERA, 0.86 FIP, 0.630 WHIP and 17.7 K/9.
Opponents batted just .089 against Williams and managed two hits all season against his changeup (.032 BA), which emerged into one of the best pitches in baseball.
Williams was named the NL Reliever of the Year on Oct. 24.
He is the first pitcher to win the NL Rookie of the Year since New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom in 2014. The last reliever to take home the award was Atlanta’s Craig Kimbrel in 2011.
Williams becomes the third Brewers player to be named Rookie of the Year, joining infielder Pat Listach (1992) and outfielder Ryan Braun (2007).
