Cardinals non-tender John Brebbia, Rangel Ravelo
ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals announced ahead of MLB’s Wednesday night non-tender deadline that they will not tender 2021 contracts to right-handed reliever John Brebbia and first baseman/outfielder Rangel Ravelo.
Brebbia, 30, was dominant out of the Cardinals’ bullpen from 2017-19, throwing for a 3.14 ERA with 198 strikeouts and 54 walks over 161 appearances. However, he underwent Tommy John surgery in June and missed the entire 2020 season. With his status for 2021 up in the air as well, the Cardinals chose not to guarantee him a spot on the 40-man roster.
Ravelo, 28, was not arbitration eligible, but the Cardinals nevertheless chose not to offer him a major league contract for next season. He played in 13 games in 2020, hitting .171 with a .530 OPS and one home run over 41 plate appearances.
