Panthers re-sign goaltender Sam Montembeault to 1-year, 2-way contract
SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has re-signed goaltender Sam Montembeault to a one-year, two-way contract.
Montembeault, 24, appeared in 14 regular season games with Florida in 2019-20, owning a 5-5-1 record, .890 save percentage and 3.34 goals against average. The 6-foot-3, 199-pound native of Becancour, Quebec, also appeared in 11 regular season games with the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League (AHL), posting a 5-5-1 record, .918 save percentage, 3.00 goals against average and one shutout.
Originally selected by Florida in the third round (77th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Montembeault has played in 25 career National Hockey League regular season games, all with Florida (2018-19 to 2019-20), producing a 9-8-3 record, .892 save percentage and a 3.20 goals against average.
A 2019 AHL All-Star, Montembeault has played in 91 career AHL games, amassing a 31-44-16 mark, a .901 save percentage, 3.21 goals against average and four shutouts.
Prior to his professional career, Montembeault played a franchise record 154 regular season games for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (2013-14 to 2016-17) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). With the Armada, Montembeault posted a career 87-40-17 record, .899 save percentage, 2.54 goals against average, 12 shutouts and was named to the 2016-17 QMJHL Second All-Star Team
