Arizona reacts to passing of Pedro Gomez
The sudden passing of Valley resident and ESPN reporter on Sunday created an outpouring of emotion from the Arizona sports community:
There are only a few words that I can summon tonight. Respect. Admiration. Love. I already miss the laugh, the smile, and the depth of conversation. The best reporter but a better man. Godspeed, Pedro Gomez.

I’m completely gutted to hear this news. One of the best men I have been around. Always made the place better when he was around. This hurts 💔 https://t.co/Ww7pjejQMJ

My heart is heavy tonight to hear about the loss of my good friend, Pedro Gomez. Pedro was an amazing man that was respected in every locker room he ever walked into. He will be greatly missed in the baseball and sports community. My family and I send our thoughts and prayers. pic.twitter.com/UWQ4r8kPyY

Such a great man and a huge loss. He was always talking about his family and left an indelible mark on our state. He emceed the Arizona Sports HOF dinner each year and he truly belongs among those greats. 🙏🏻 https://t.co/IjuS59Ce2y

Pedro Gomez’s last tweet. A week ago. Shows the Arizona nature, the blue sky and the moon lit by the sun. His spirit is around here with us now. RIP Pedro. God bless. https://t.co/TSEjzgG4wk

Can’t believe Pedro Gomez is gone. One of the kindest, sweetest souls I’ve ever known among reporters I’ve worked with. Always had a smile and encouraging words.

This hits so hard. Pedro is a former co-worker at The Arizona Republic/azcentral. One of the nicest guys in the business. Terrible news. https://t.co/cAc3t4bbIK

A story that sums up Pedro Gomez. Introduced my then 10 yr old son to him at a game / Pedro asked him about his baseball. My son later said “it was fun to meet a star like Pedro Gomez.”
I relayed that to Pedro and he replied “you need to explain to your son what a star is.”

If you grew up in Ahwatukee, you knew what a special dad Pedro was. If you went to @Cronkite_ASU, he was probably a guest speaker in one (if not several) of your classes. If you were a young reporter in a clubhouse, he probably gave you advice. Such a loss. Prayers for his family https://t.co/cr2q2dykA5

I went through Pedro’s tweets/replies tonight looking for one he had tweeted after one of my fun and loved-filled softball tweets I do for my daughters. I found myself scrolling through all his uplifting replies to everyone. Wonderful life we can all learn from.
