2021 Cards HOF nominees: Carlton, Hernandez, Morris, Renteria, Smith
Two infielders, two starting pitchers and one closer are the five nominees for the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame 2021 induction class.
First baseman Keith Hernandez, shortstop Edgar Rentería, starters Steve Carlton and Matt Morris and closer Lee Smith are the nominees. One will be selected by fans.
The lone 2021 selection will join 2020 Cardinals Hall of Fame selections Tom Herr, John Tudor and Bill White in an Aug. 21 induction ceremony. The 2020 ceremony was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Fan voting opened Monday at cardinals.com/HOF. The winner will be announced in early May.
“Although the pandemic has created many challenges for our sport and organization, we will continue to celebrate and honor our team’s history by inducting another Cardinals player into our Hall of Fame during the 2021 season,” said Bill DeWitt Jr., Cardinals chairman and CEO.
