The move saves Minnesota $11.8 million towards the salary cap, with an estimated $3.2 in dead money. With the new league year set to begin March 17, the Vikings now have about $8.7 million in cap space (via Over The Cap).

Reiff joins kicker Dan Bailey and tight end Kyle Rudolph as impact players to be released by Minnesota this offseason.

A first-round pick by Detroit in 2012, Reiff signed with the Vikings as a free agent in 2017 and played 58 games at tackle over the last four campaigns. In 2020, Reiff played 15 contests, allowed two sacks and was whistled for one penalty. He surrendered 15.75 sacks over his four-year tenure with Minnesota.

The Vikings currently have five players listed as tackles on their roster: Blake Brandel, Aviante Collins, Rashod Hill, Brian O’Neill and Oli Udoh.

O’Neill, a 2018 second-round pick, started all 16 games at right tackle for the Vikings in 2020.
