Child Safeguarding
- Level 3: The role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
Role Purpose:
- The Digital Media, Comms and Publications Officer, reporting to the Digital Media and Communication Specialist, shall design and layout culturally appropriate, user friendly, communication products to support Save the Children’s advocacy and campaign programs, with a special focus on public awareness raising activities.
- S/he will be responsible for developing a range of compelling communication products for social media and web.
- S/he will have the technical ownership of regularly updating and maintaining SCI Nigeria website, Workplace and social media channels with high quality and relevant messages to our targets.
Scope of Role:
- Closely Works With: Media and Communication Manager; Digital Media and Communication Specialist; Information and External Communication Specialist; Advocacy, Campaigns and Policy Manager/Survive/Learn/Be Protected Breakthrough; Director of Advocacy, Campaign, Media and Communication; Project/Field Office Advocacy and Mobilization staff.
Key Areas of Accountability:
- Digital Media, Comms and Publications Officer will raise the profile of Save the Children through the creative and diversified use of graphics design; social media; web and high quality publications layout and design.
- S/he will ensure that the branding and communication guidelines of Save the Children are uniformly and consistently followed across the Nigerian Country Office internal and external publications design and digital media.
- The Officer will have a creative flair and a strong ability to translate requirements into design, editing images and footages, among other.
Publications, Content Design and Layout:
- Edit, design and/or layout high quality, culturally suitable, and user friendly communications, publications, visibility and multimedia products, including but not limited to videos, photographs, infographics, brochures, flyers, newsletters, posters, fact sheets, country profile, backdrop banners for internal and external advocacy and campaign engagements
- Ensure that the layout and design of communications materials are in accordance with Save the Children’s brand guidelines
- Design product templates, infographics, and data visualization materials
- Layout and design presentation materials for workshops, webinars, and external relations needs
Digital Media and Communications:
- Edit photographs and videos that will be used to build the visibility and engagement with Save the Children members, Regional Office/Centre, partners and relevant stakeholders to support programmes, advocacy and campaign objectives
- Regularly update, monitor and enhance SCI Nigeria website, Workplace and social media channels
- Increase SCI Nigeria social media reach, engagement, followers, fans and subscribers
- Creating graphics including illustrations, logos, layouts and photos for advocacy and campaigns
- Tailor communication styles to different audiences with responsibility for ensuring terminology, branding and visibility at all materials, and ensure that SCI’s mandate as an impartial, neutral and humanitarian organisation is imparted in all digital media channels, publications, communications
- Successfully promoting and strengthening the profile of SCI in Nigeria through the social media, Workplace, website and other opportunities
- Build the capacity of partner organizations for content packaging as well as ensuring any joint communications project design and layouts are in-line with SCI policies and standards, including branding and visibility
- Enhance staff’s capacity in digital media and communication
- Amplify the voices of children through digital media, communication and publication
- Promote SCI Nigeria advocacy and campaigns, including, Save Our Education Campaign, Safe Back to School Campaign, Girls Education Campaign; through digital media; Workplace and the Web
Building and Maintaining Effective Relationships:
- Work with the Advocacy, Campaign, Media and Communications Team to layout and design high quality and culturally acceptable communications and visibility products
- Develop and maintain a central database for ACCM infographics and other communications materials
- Support the Digital Media and Communication Specialist in engaging with the procurement unit to ensure that all education, information and communications materials produced/printed are of high quality and in adherence with SCI Global Brand Visibility Policy

Experience and Skills
- Graduated with Degree in Digital Marketing and Communication; Graphic Design; Media Studies; Journalism; and Mass Communication or in any related field from a recognised higher educational institution
- A minimum of 1-2 year/s related work experience, preferably in similar positions in CSOs, INGOs
- Proven experience of developing and managing the production of communications materials for INGOs or other similar organisations. Can produce accurate, clear and consistent information and communication outputs relating to both programme support and humanitarian situation
- Proven graphic designing experience. A strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics
- Familiarity with design software and technologies (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop)
- A keen eye for aesthetics and details. Related skills such as illustration, copy editing, and interactive design are a plus; Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines essential
- Evidence of excellent English verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of different audiences including donors, partners and the ‘general public’. Ability to strategically target a wide-range of audiences is essential
- Excellent relationship building skills

- The ability to deliver in high-pressure situations, with changing deadlines and priorities;
- Ability to fact check, proofread, edit and draft materials
