Project Manager / Consortium Coordinator – Child Protection at COOPI – Cooperazione Internazionale

COOPI – Cooperazione Internazionale is an Italian humanitarian non-governmental organization founded in Milan in 1965. COOPI aims to help the world’s poorest to improve their access to healthcare, food, and financial security, and to overcome their special vulnerability to wars, civil conflicts and natural disasters.

COOPI started its operations in North-East Nigeria in July 2014 and its interventions direct assista to the IDPs and host communities, through a multi-sectorial programme covering Disaster Risk Reduction, Food Security, Social protection, Early Recovery and Livelihoods, Nutrition and Child Protection interventions. COOPI’s capacity to respond to the humanitarian situation in the country is confirmed by its experience in providing humanitarian aid in more than 28 other Countries around the World, in over 55 years of operations.

COOPI is currently present in Yobe, Borno states in Northeast and Sokoto state in Northwest. In Northeast, COOPI’s intervention areas are located in Jakusko, Geidem, Yunusari and Damaturu LGAs and in Kaga LGA of Borno State.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Project Manager / Consortium Coordinator – Child Protection

Location: Yobe State, Damaturu as main Base Office, with frequent daily trips to Gashua and other field locations Yobe,
Employment Type: Full-time

Overall Responsibilities

  • Within the scope of COOPI’s Child Protection project, Protection Project Manager will be responsible for the overall activities’ planning, execution and reporting of the projects he/she is directly assigned to, and of the supervision of all the other projects and of the Field Base office logistics, HR, financial and overall functioning.
  • The project’s activities are implemented in Damaturu, Gujba, Bade, Geidam and Yunusari LGAs, targeting children at risk and Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASCs) within the IDP and host communities of those target LGAs in Yobe state.
  • The project includes registration, case management, service provision, referrals and capacity building of government and community stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks
Under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinator and in collaboration with the other collaborators of the projects and Head of the Base, He/She will:

  • Designs the detailed work plan in line with the project guidelines and description, guaranteeing the smooth implementation of all the activities on-time, on-quality and on-budget;
  • Leads the effective implementation of the Consortium’s governance with two National NGOs, ensuring clear communication and reporting relationships between COOPI and external partners, including the donor.
  • Ensures cross departmental coordination including consortium partners’ components such as nutrition, Education and protection.
  • In cooperation and synergy with the project staff, plans and monitors the activities’ progress, in compliance with the contract signed with the donor, with donor’s and COOPI’s procedures, and with the specific Project Structure and Reporting Lines definition, making use of the financial instruments provided by the organization;
  • In collaboration with the Administrative Assistant, the Country Administrator and the Logistics team, plans and monitors the expenditures in line with the project’s implementation needs;
  • In cooperation with the Program Coordinator, finalizes the data provided by the Child Project team, supports the preparation, in compliance with the deadlines, of the narrative reports expected by the donors and by the partners;
  • Coordinates the overall project: supervises the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the staff; monitors the accuracy and efficiency of the case management activities; in collaboration with the Child Protection Officer, deals with possible cases which cannot be addressed by the available and ongoing referral network;
  • Contributes in consolidating the case management referral network by establishing proficient collaboration with the partners working in the targeted areas and actively suggesting gaps and recommendations to the supervisors;
  • Contributes and approves the line of training designed by the Child Protection Officer;
  • Represents COOPI with the local / State authorities and partners (SEMA, MSWSD, MYASD, NGOs and UN agencies at local level Protection Working Group meetings);
  • In collaboration with the Program Coordinator, prepares all the formal communication and contract modification requests (ex. budget modification) of the project;
  • Manages the goods purchased for the project; for all goods purchased by the project, support updates of the inventory and guarantee the respect of the policies and guidelines, in cooperation with the Logistics Office;
  • In collaboration with the Program Coordinator and in synergy with the specific reporting lines of the projects, promotes and manages relations with the local government institutions, NGOs, and other local partners available in the area;
  • Executes any other task necessary to good and timely completion of the projects, identified in mutual agreement.
  • In coordination with the Country Administrator, supports in hiring of new staff directly related to the project and conducts staff appraisals Upholds COOPI’s mission and Charter of Values;
  • Follows and enforces all COOPI codes of conduct and policies (globally and in-country);
  • Performs any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Requirements
Preferred:

  • Education Degree: University Degree or Diploma In Social Work, Social Studies, Psychology, Education or any other related discipline
  • At least two years of professional experience in the support of vulnerable people or in the humanitarian field, preferably in the field of PSS.
  • Knowledge & skills: Excellent analytical and writing skills, creative thinking
  • Computer skills: Good knowledge of the MS office software.
  • Knowledge of protection prorgams in Northeastern Nigeria/
  • Knowledge of protection issues and best practices
  • Previous experience in PSS activities plans and designing and implementing of recreational activities.
  • Good communicator, strong listening capacity, open minded, proactive and creative
  • Respectful and inclusive of individual and cultural differences.
  • Significant experience involving work engaging people in and from community settings.
  • Knowledge of the local language (Hausa and Kanuri).
  • Good knowledge of the intervention area/s and local context.
