About the Project
- The project in Adamawa state is an 18-months project aimed at Contributing to the mitigation of conflict over natural resources between farmer and herder communities in Adamawa state in an equitable, inclusive and sustainable manner. COMITAS project covers Demsa, Numan, Lamurde, Girei and Mayo Belwa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Adamawa State.
Project Strategy (Approaches and Methodology)
- Component 1: To strengthen the traditional conflict resolution mechanisms through enhanced early warning and early response
- Component 2: To build community trust in authorities to address their grievances and prevent further escalation of violence
- Component 3: To Enhance farmer and herder communities’ capacity and collaboration over natural resource management
- Component 4: To improve unbiased intra and inter communal perceptions through unbiased reporting and peace messaging
Overview of Content Analysis
- Farmer and herder communities in Nigeria and West Africa have historically lived in a peaceful, symbiotic relationship that developed through reciprocity and mutual support. For example, herders’ cattle would fertilize farmland in exchange for grazing rights.
- However, tensions have grown over the past decade with reports of violent clashes becoming more frequent.
- Although violence is increasingly described in religious terms, competing claims to land and other resources are at its core.
Purpose or Summary of the consultancy
- We are looking for a consultant that is well grounded in training staff, partners and communities on Trauma Awareness and resilience, burn out, stress and psychological first aid (PFA).
- The consultant must possess a requisite skill in the training on Trauma awareness, psychological first aid, stress and Burn out.
- He/she must have experience engaging both men and women using culturally acceptable means to facilitate the training.
- The consultant will train Traditional leaders to recognize early signs of trauma in conflict prone locations and resilience to support and disseminate response plans for these persons that promote peacebuilding and solution-based responses.
Methodology
- The methodology of training will be a Hybrid process, the trainer will deliver the training with not more than 30 participants physically present in the same location.
- Training methodology will include lecturette, discussions, teach trauma healing techniques, experiential learning, power-point presentation, role plays, group tasks, exercises, questions and answers, administration of pre and posttest and post-training evaluation forms.
Responsibilities
Trainer will:
- Deliver the training physically with all of the participants (Not more than 30 participants) being physically present to ensure coordination.
- Deliver quality training modules that captures the entire sessions on the Trauma related topics
- Submit training modules (topics to be treated) to Search before preparing the manual.
Reporting Line:
- The consultant will work closely with the Training Coordinator and report to the Head of Office, Middle belt.
- S/He will be supported by the COMITAS training team in Adamawa State.
Timeframe:
- The training will take place within three days (in the month of January – preferably Tuesday to Thursday).
- Training report should be ready within 5 working days from the last day of training
Deliverables:
The deliverables are:
- Develop manuals in both MS word and power-point slides (kindly note that Training manual, agenda, pre and post-test, and evaluation forms will be shared with Search and vetted before training commences).
- Delivering one 3-days training (In-Person) for traditional leaders from 10 project communities in Yola
- Submission of a comprehensive activity report 5 days after completion of the training
Required Profile
- Three to Five years’ experience in facilitating training on Trauma related topics
- A minimum of 10 trainings provided to participants on Trauma issues
- Evidence of training facilitated in the past and recommendation from other organizations
- Excellent command of English and Hausa (Highly recommended)
- Excellent use of technology to provide training
- Training Experience provided in the NGO sector in West Africa and Nigeria is an added advantage.
The Trainer will respect the following ethical Principles:
- Comprehensive and systematic inquiry: Consultant should make the most of the existing information and full range of stakeholders available at the time of the training.
- Consultant should conduct systematic, data-based inquiries.
- He or she should communicate his or her methods and approaches accurately and in sufficient detail to allow others to understand, interpret and critique his or her work.
- He or she should make clear the limitations of the Evaluations and its results.
- Competence: Consultant should possess the abilities, skills and experience appropriate to undertake the tasks proposed and should practice within the limits of his or her professional training and competence.
- Honesty and integrity: Consultant should be transparent with the contractor/constituent about: any conflict of interest, any change made in the negotiated project plan and the reasons why those changes were made, any risk that certain procedures or activities produce misleading review information.
- Respect for people: Consultant respect the security, dignity and self-worth of participants.
- Consultant has the responsibility to be sensitive to and respect differences amongst participants in culture, religion, gender, disability, age and ethnicity.
