Terrorism Sponsors: Nigerian Officials Have Been Compromised – Ojukwu

A former Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, says the Nigerian authorities must do more than just talk when comes to the issue of those financing terrorism in the country.

Ojukwu, who on Thursday, was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said there is a compromise by government officials when it comes to the prosecution of terrorism financiers.

“They are trying to keep the names for political reasons, because their allies and colleagues are involved, so they want to hide themselves. There’s a lot of compromise here,” Ojukwu asserted.

The former commissioner’s comment comes a few hours after the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed stated that the federal government had uncovered 96 financiers of terrorism in the country.

Reacting further to the minister’s disclosure, the former police commissioner said beyond talking, the government must “activate legal processes and get the individuals involved arrested”.

“This is not the first time government both federal and state have told us that they know the financiers of terrorists, but there is too much talk and no action” the former police officer lamented.

While tagging the unnamed citizens and government officials benefitting from the insurgency as “disaster merchants,” Ojukwu Nigerians do not even need to know the names of these individuals, adding that what the people need is justice.

“We don’t need to hear the names; get them (terrorism sponsors) arrested, prosecute them and put them behind bars. That is where they belong,” the retired police officer stressed.

Mr Ojukwu said it is not enough to tell Nigerians that a certain number of terrorism financiers have been uncovered.

He buttressed that there should be nothing stopping the government from releasing the names and prosecuting the people who have caused so much hardships on Nigerians.
