Police operatives have arrested two men for stealing a Sallah ram in the Ogijo area of Ogun State.

In a statement on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were arrested following a report lodged at Ogijo divisional headquarters.

The suspects were said to have broken into a pen housing the ram, pulled down the steel gate and took the animal away around 3 am on Tuesday.

Police spokesman said the animal belonged to Sodiq Abolore, who raised an alarm after discovering that the ram he bought for N120,000 was missing.

“The suspect reported that while he was sleeping in his house at about 3 am, he heard an unusual noise in his compound which made him peep through the window, only to discover that the iron gate he used to block the entrance where he kept his Salah ram has been pulled down,” Oyeyemi said.

“This made him come out and discovered that his Salah ram which he bought at the rate of #120,000 is no longer there.”

Of the three initial suspects that were chased, the police spokesman stated that two were apprehended, while the other one escaped.

The ram, he added, was recovered and the two suspects were taken to custody.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Lanre Bankole, however, ordered an in-depth investigation of the case, with the view of charging the suspects to court as soon as possible.
