Driver Shot After Knocking Down Police Inspector In Enugu, CP Orders Probe
A driver, Christian Ogwuike, has allegedly knocked down a police inspector in Monkey Roundabout, Independence Layout, Enugu State.
In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said Ogwuike who was driving a Lexus Saloon Car committed the act on July 21 in Enugu North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect is accused of refusing to cooperate with operatives attached to the 3 Police Mobile Force, Enugu, while on routine stop and search duty at EFCC Roundabout.

While trying to flee the crime scene, the police spokesman said operatives fired a shot that hit the driver in the thigh.
“The driver, rather than stop, recklessly zoomed off, knocking down one of the Operatives and pulling him along to a distance of about four poles, before he was forced to stop by the other members of the team, who immediately went after him,” the police spokesman said.
“In the bid to restrain the driver from further escape, one of the operatives fired a knee-level shot, which got him in the thigh.”
He stated that both the driver and the police inspector are responding to treatment in a hospital facility in the state.
Reacting to the issue, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abubakar Lawal, ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, to thoroughly investigate the incident and come up with actionable findings.
The police commissioner also urged residents of the state, particularly motorists, to always cooperate with security operatives legitimately performing road duties, to avoid the occurrence of this nature.
He equally assured the general public that the Enugu State Police Command will hint them of developments in the case.
