College of Education, Zing was established on the 4th August, 1977, by the then Gongola State Government vide edict No. 3 of 1978, to provide courses of study, training and research in arts, languages and the sciences as well as in vocational and technical subjects, leading to the award of the Nigeria College of Education (NCE).

The Provost

The Provost is the Chief Executive of the College and is charged with general responsibility to matters relating to day-to-day management and operation of the College.
He is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the College and has statutory power to exercise general authority over the staff and Students and is responsible for the discipline in the College, subject to general control of the Governing Council as provided in the College Edict.
The applicant to the post of provost must have a demonstrable passion for academic endeavours, and must also be credible.

Qualifications and Qualities
Candidates must possess the following requirements:

Must have education qualification plus Ph.D. Degree from recognized institution of higher learning in any of the Educational related discipline offered in the College of Education.
Must be a Chief Lecturer of at least fifteen (15) years cognate experience.
Not more than 55 years at the time of assumption of duty.
Must be proficient in ICT packages and capacities.
Must have evidence of community services.
Must have a substantial contribution to teaching/knowledge through: Academic Publications, Articles, Journals and Chapters in Scholarly (professional) Books and Conference Papers.
Must demonstrate evidence of strong academic and creativity in policy formulation, good human relations and managerial attributes.
Must show evidence of membership of reputable professional body/bodies.
Must be able to attract research grants and development facilities to the College.
Must be a person with initiative and vision with the capacity to sustain accelerated pace of the College, even under financial and other challenging constraints.
Must be fair-minded and dynamic individual with an impeccable reputation.
Must be a person who is not likely to pursue tribal, ethical, gender political, religious or other sectional interest.
Must be morally sound, high integrity and free from financial embarrassment.
Must enjoy excellent physical and mental health.
Must have at least 15 years full time teaching and substantial research experience and output in a post-secondary institution, or a greater part of which must be spent in the educational system.
