We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Seedbank Manager

Ref No: IITA-HR-NRS2022-018
Location: Ibadan, Oyo
Recruitment Type: National
Contract: 3-year renewable contract

Duties

  • Coordinate characterization and diversity assessment activities of the collections and ensure the supply of germplasm.
  • Coordinate germplasm conservation activities for long-term and medium-term storage.
  • Monitor viability level of conserved germplasm.
  • Ensure safety duplication of accessions in Svalbard Global Seed Vault and in another CGIAR Genebank.
  • Perform regeneration and multiplication of germplasm as may be necessary.
  • Liaise with IITA Germplasm Health Unit (GHU) for seed health testing and cleaning for conservation and distribution.
  • Write reports on various genetic resources conservation activities and coordinate local and international seed request and distribution.
  • Design and execute research projects on Plant Growth Regulator use, and also carry out germplasm exploration when necessary.
  • Perform any other job-related task as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in Plant Science, Plant Genetic, Plant Breeding and Seed Science or any other related field with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience performing similar or related role in a well-structured organization.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:

  • Have good knowledge of statistical data analysis and experimental designs.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
  • Have good communication skills (written and spoken).
