Job Title: ADHOC Driver
Location: Maiduguri, Borno

Background
- The crisis in Borno state, Northeast Nigeria, now in its thirteenth year, has created severe humanitarian needs. Ongoing conflict between non-state armed groups and government forces has created high levels of displacement and food insecurity and has exacerbated protection risks for civilians with 7.7 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.
- The majority of IDPs in the northeast are clustered in urban areas of Borno State, both in Borno State’s capital, Maiduguri, and increasingly, in Local Government Area (LGA) headquarter towns as a part of a GoN security strategy of ‘encamped garrison towns.
Purpose / Objectives
- There is a need to have a professional Driver(s) on standby, assessed and authorized by the country led operations to drive MCN vehicles across her implementing location. This is necessitated to ensure efficiency and maximize program fleet needs.
- We are looking for a dependable license and a skilled driver to drive MCN vehicles
Deliverables:
- The selected driver(s) will provide safe transport services for Mercy Corps staff in the described area of responsibility. The driver will adhere to all country-specific traffic regulations and Mercy Corps safety rules and follow the Field Fleet Management Policy.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operate MC vehicles as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain vehicle log-sheets in accordance with Field Fleet Management Policy.
- Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely – report needs and problems to Head Driver
- Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by Mercy Corps and supervisor.
- Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares etc.
- Keep the vehicle ready, clean and on standby – ready for use always.
- Assist, as required, with logistics in the office and guesthouse daily workloads.
- Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to Head Driver on a regular basis.
- Undertake field assignments as assigned.
- Conduct themself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its strategic mission in the country of operation.
Timeframe / Schedule
- This service is expected to last for 6 months. The Driver(s) shall be engaged on a call bases and the cumulative services shall not exceed the maximum agreed days.
The Driver(s) will be managed by:
- Head Driver.
Evaluation Criteria
- Completion of Secondary School (SSCE) or any other professional driving certificate
- Documented evidence of previous experience in similar capacity
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a driver
- Possession of valid Driver’s License and experience in driving 4×4 vehicles.
- Basic understanding of English and fluency in local language (Hausa, Kanuri)
- Knowledge of routes around Maiduguri and the Northeast, duty stations, project areas, and the community is required
