Bengals trade down, take tight end in second round

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals took tight end Drew Sample from Washington in the second round Friday after trading down 10 spots with Denver, which went for quarterback Drew Lock.

It’s the third straight year that Cincinnati traded down in the second round.

The Bengals have tried to upgrade their offense with their first two picks. The passing game finished 24th in the league, with receiver A.J. Green missing seven games with a toe injury and quarterback Andy Dalton missing five with a thumb injury.

The Bengals took Alabama offensive tackle Jonah Williams with the 11th overall pick Thursday, right after their biggest rival swooped in and got a linebacker they valued. The Steelers traded with the Broncos to get Michigan’s Devin Bush at No. 10.
