Data Scientist at OneFi Nigeria

OneFi started in 2012 as a brick and mortar consumer lender focused on the Nigerian market. Having raised a Series A round in 2015, we pivoted in 2016 to become a digital lender via the Paylater App (www.paylater.ng) and we are focused on provided access to financial services to the “Next Billion’ starting in Africa.

Currently, we are the largest fully automated smartphone lender in West Africa with over 1,000,000 apps downloaded and disbursing just under 2,000 loans per day in Nigeria and Ghana. Our 2018 goal is to be a digital bank in 3 countries and have secured a banking license in Nigeria already.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Data Scientist

Location: Lagos

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement methods for adaptive learning with associated controls of effectiveness, methods for explaining model decisions where necessary, model validation, as well as A/B testing of models.
  • Creating predictive customer behavioral models using a multitude of data sources
  • Experiment with in-house and external data sets to test feasibility on relevance and value of data to business problems
  • Work with business stakeholders to aid with data driven business decisions
  • Collaborate with engineering to implement predictive models in production environment
  • Pro-actively drive availability of relevant data, tools, and infrastructure

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems or related Engineering fields, with 3+ years experience in the relevant industry
  • Practical experience with statistical learning techniques such as logistic regression, Naïve Bayes, SVM, decision trees, or neural networks.
  • Financial services domain knowledge including expertise at the intersection of risk, finance and customer domains
  • Strong technical background in Programming, Database Technology, Data Visualization and Big Data

Skill Sets:

  • Strong analytical skills with previous experience working with large and complex data sets.
  • Result-oriented team player with exceptional motivation and interpersonal skills
  • Expert in performing statistical analysis, data manipulation and modeling in R and/or Python.
  • Proficient in reporting/visualization using any of the available tools in R, Python, Kibana, etc.
  • Excellent skills in Apache Hadoop and related toolset (MapR, HDFS, YARN, Spark and/or Mlib)

Preferred:

  • AWS Toolchain experience, S3, RedShift, RDS, EMR, Machine Learning.
