Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has been ruled out from the remaining matches of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations due to a knee injury.

The Trabzonspor new man was reported to have sustained a knee injury in Super Eagles’ Group B encounter with Madagascar in Alexandria last Sunday.

Mikel was initially set to miss the round of 16 clash against the Indomitable Lions on Saturday, however, a further test on his injured knee revealed he may not be able to continue.

He has struggled for fitness and form since returning to the national team, after a year absence, the 31-year-old was substituted in Nigeria’s 1-0 over Burundi and the shocking defeat to Madagascar, he failed to get on the pitch against Guinea.
