Wright-Phillips’ late goal helps RBNY tie Atlanta United
ATLANTA (AP) — Bradley Wright-Phillips scored the game’s second stoppage-time goal to help the New York Red Bulls tie Atlanta United 3-3 on Sunday.
Wright-Phillips put away a low entry by 19-year-old Cristian Cásseres Jr. to cap the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time.
Justin Meram gave Atlanta (9-7-3) a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute but goals by Daniel Royer in the 37th and Brian White in the 60th minute put the Red Bulls (8-7-4) up 2-1.
Josef Martínez drew a foul in the area and converted from the spot in the 79th to make it 2-2 and his header in the first minute of injury time gave Atlanta a 3-2 lead.
Wright-Phillips, the only MLS player with 20-plus goals in three different seasons, scored for just the second time this season and the first since March 16. The 34-year old missed nine games over nearly two month with a groin injury.
