Nursing Assistant

Key Result Areas (KRA)
The key result areas of this role are:

Medical Responsibilities:

  • Check and record patient’s vital signs such Weight, Height, blood pressure, temperature and respiration rate.
  • Assist patients in carrying out basic functions such as bathing, dressing, bed linen changes.
  • Observe patients for changes in condition or behaviour and promptly report these changes to the nursing office

Administrative Duties:

A&E Nursing Officer

Job Summary

  • The Emergency nursing Officer will be responsible for assessing, intervening and stabilizing variety of trauma and ill patients who due to the range of medical conditions may require urgent treatment and care. The person will be required to understand triage, which is a method of prioritizing injuries based on medical need.

Job Summary

  • The Peri-operative Nurse plans and directs nursing care for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures.
  • The job holder organizes peri-operative procedures to ensure patient admission, recovery care following surgery and preparation for discharge.
  • The nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through implementation of a nursing care plan in accordance with the mission of the hospital to ensure safe and quality patient care to all patients.

Key Result Areas (KRA)
The key result areas of this role are:
Medical Functions:

  • Prepare patients for their procedure by ensuring that pre-medication is administered, patient or guardian has given written consent, required blood tests have been carried out, identification labels and bracelets are correct and all patient’s allergies have been recorded in the patient’s notes.
  • Assess the psychological and physiological conditions of patients before, during and after the operation to ensure an optimal outcome of the patient.
  • Manage the nurse care of the patient and coordinate the needs of the surgical team with other care providers necessary for completion of the surgery
  • Assist surgeons in selecting and handling of instruments, controlling bleeding and suturing incisions.

Nurse Anaesthetist

Job Summary

  • The Anaesthetist Nurse is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for patients undergoing surgical procedures. The job holder provides high quality clinical assistance to the Anesthetist during surgical procedures and also provides clinical supervision on a day to day basis to junior nursing staff in the unit.

Key Result Areas (KRA):

  • Assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients.
  • Ensure that the anaesthetic room is prepared in accordance with the individual needs of the patient and anaesthetist in terms of drug preparation/administration, IV cannulation, IV fluids and preparation and insertion of invasive monitoring as required.
  • Perform arterial blood gas sampling, recognize and interpret findings and report the findings to the anaesthetist.
  • Assist the Anaesthetist during pre- and intra-operative period initiating care and clinical interventions according to patient’s condition and in accordance with Health regulations.
  • Evaluate patients’ post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur.
  • Perform pre-anesthetic screenings, including physical evaluations and patient interviews, and document results.
