Role Purpose

  • Under the responsibility of the Civil Society Engagement Project Manager (PM), and in close collaboration with the Inclusion Coordinator and Inclusion Technical Advisor, the Inclusion Officer is responsible to:
  • Mainstream inclusion across the project and ensure inclusive HI practices at all phases of the ‘Building Peaceful Futures’ project cycle, both internally and externally in line with the HI Inclusion Strategy
  • Contribute to the capacity building of project partners, Disabled People Organizations (DPOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on cross-sector inclusive approaches, including WASH, Legal Assistance and Health Care interventions
  • Support the development and roll-out of HI inclusion guidelines and tools

Key Areas of Accountability
Inclusion Mainstreaming:

  • In coordination with the Inclusion Coordinator and Technical Advisor, contribute and participate in the development and review of relevant tools, processes and resources for the project partners, based on identified needs, gaps and priorities
  • Carry out continuous assessments in coordination with the Accessibility Officer on the needs and priorities of partner organizations, DPOs and CSOs relating to inclusion and accessibility to ensure a comprehensive analysis
  • Support partner organizations, DPOs and CSOs to implement activities following an inclusive approach
  • Ensure the transmission of key messages on inclusion
  • Participate in the CSO/DPO service mapping to identify organizations in need of support on inclusion approaches.
  • Assess the non-physical barriers of the community to access services (ethnical, political, geographical, gender/age/disability, institutional, attitudinal)
  • Ensure equal participation through all stages of the project from all members of the community, taking into consideration gender, age and diversity

Inclusion Training and Capacity Building of Partner Teams:

  • In coordination with the Technical Unit, facilitate awareness sessions on basic concept of inclusion and vulnerability for project partners (INGOs, NNGOs)
  • Facilitate Training of Trainers (ToT) on Inclusion and Age Gender and Disability Approach for project partners
  • Identify the inclusion needs, gaps and priorities of partners in order to mainstream inclusion and to share appropriate guidelines and adapt trainings and awareness sessions accordingly
  • Support skills development and provide regular inclusion technical guidance to project partners, DPOs and CSOs

Monitoring, Reporting and Quality Contol:

  • Provide weekly reporting on activities (achievement of results, activity monitoring, network meeting reports, training needs, etc.)
  • Ensure quality control of inclusion mainstreaming activities
  • Support DPOs in the development of Inclusion monitoring for different sectors
  • Provide technical support to the DPOs for monitoring summary reports and recommendations to be shared with government authorities and key stakeholders
  • Ensure technical coherence of the approach and methodology on all the components of the inclusion guidelines in the project.
  • Ensure compliance with HI policies, guidelines and standards on Inclusion

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:

  • Minimum of first Degree or HND in Social Sciences, such as Economics, Geography, Development Studies and a postgraduate degree will be an added advantage
  • Significant prior NGO experience 3 – 5 years within a complex/large scale country programme and in emergency response/humanitarian environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work proactively and flexibly alongside a wide range of team members A flexible approach to work, with understanding of team working in a rapidly changing environment and at times under extreme pressure
  • Ability to solve problems, work under own initiative and see tasks through to completion
  • Proven organisational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Excellent computer literacy, confident in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and use of e-mail and electronic diaries
  • Excellent administrative and general office experience, including knowledge and experience of developing administrative systems
  • Strong numeracy skills and experience of tracking and monitoring budgets; budget planning, phasing, forecasting and reporting experience; experience of working to tight budgets
  • Commitment to support cross organisational initiatives and team work-planning and understanding of how to contribute to these
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Understanding of and commitment to development work
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles

Desirable:

  • Experience of Cash transfer programming
  • Experience with Save the Children
  • Experience of writing or supporting writing of proposals for institutional donors
  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts
