A gentleman and a hockey player: Blues’ O’Reilly a finalist for Lady Byng
ST. LOUIS — The award nominations keep rolling in for Blues forward Ryan O’Reilly.
A day after being named a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Memorial Trophy (best defensive forward), O’Reilly was announced as a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, which honors the player who exhibits “the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.”
Also nominated for the Lady Byng were Florida Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov and Calgary Flames forward Sean Monahan.
O’Reilly, who won the Lady Byng in 2014 as a member of the Colorado Avalanche, has set career highs in assists (49), points (77) and plus/minus (+22) while leading the league with 1,086 faceoff wins. He spent only 12 minutes in the penalty box, tied for second fewest among players who logged at least 77 points.
