Bieber strikes out 14, sets Indians record

CLEVELAND, OHIO – Starting Sunday, Nov. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 15, SportsTime Ohio will be replaying Cleveland Indians games featuring impressive outings by AL Cy Young contender Shane Bieber.

It all begins at 7 p.m. on Sunday with a re-air of Indians Opening Day from July 24, 2020, a Tribe 2-0 win over the Kansas City Royals. Bieber’s 14 strikeouts over six scoreless innings set a club record for Opening Day and became the most in the majors in an opener since Hall of Famer Randy Johnson’s 14 K’s on March 31, 1996.

Monday, November 9 at 9 p.m.

  • Beiber struck out eight in 7 2/3 innings
  • Franmil Reyes hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer
Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m.

  • Bieber struck out 11 in seven scoreless innings
  • José Ramírez hit a two-run double with the bases loaded in the third and Carlos Santana made it 3-0 with an RBI double in the fifth
Wednesday, November 11 at 7 p.m.
  • Game from August 20, 2020 – Indians win 2-0 vs. Pirates
  • Bieber struck out 11 throwing 99 pitches in six innings
  • It was the 11th double-digit strikeout game of Bieber’s three-year career; Herb Score (17) and Feller (12) are the only Indians with more
Thursday, November 12 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Game from August 25, 2020 – Indians win 4-2 vs. Twins
  • Fanned 10 in six innings, Bieber tallied double-digit strikeouts for the third straight game
  • Francisco Lindor hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth
Friday, November 13 at 7 p.m.
  • Game from September 6, 2020 – Indians win 4-1 vs. Brewers
  • Bieber struck out 10 in five innings to stay unbeaten
  • His recording at least eight strikeouts in each of his first nine starts matched Indians Hall of Famer Bob Feller’s club mark (1946) to start a season
  • It also was the majors’ longest run to start a season since Pedro Martinez did it nine times to start 1999

Saturday, November 14 at 4 p.m.
  • Game from September 17, 2020 – Indians win 10-3 vs. Tigers
  • Beiber took a shutout into the 8th inning, striking out 10 (raising total to 112)
  • He became the first eight-game winner of the shortened season
  • José Ramírez homered twice on his 28th birthday
Sunday, November 15 at 7 p.m.
  • Game from September 23, 2020 – Indians 3-2 win vs. White Sox
  • Bieber lowered his ERA to 1.63 in his final regular-season start, the lowest in the AL since Luis Tiant’s 1.60 for Cleveland in 1968
  • Jordan Luplow hit a game-ending home run
