Back spasms force Junis to IL, Royals recall Viloria
The Kansas City Royals placed starter Jakob Junis on the IL and recalled catcher Meibrys Viloria before Sunday’s game against the Twins.
Junis was scratched from pitching Saturday in Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Twins. The 27-year-old righty is dealing with back spasms. Junis has started two games this season, the last on Aug. 7. He sports a 4.00 ERA in nine innings pitched.
Viloria was called up from the alternate site and relieved Salvador Perez in the Royals’ lineup on Sunday. The young backstop appeared in 42 games last season and hit .211 with one home run.
