Wong, the National League’s back-to-back Gold Glove winner at second base, was a first-round pick by St. Louis in 2011 and played for the Cardinals from 2013-20.
Wong tallied 25 defensive runs saved over the last two seasons, the most among second basemen in that span. Atlanta’s Ozzie Albies ranked second with 10 DRS.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Kolten to Milwaukee,” general manager David Stearns said in a statement. “Kolten’s skillset adds to our club in a variety of ways. He has established himself as one of the best defenders in all of baseball. He also offers a well-balanced offensive approach that will serve as an additional on-base presence to our lineup.”
In 852 career contests, Wong slashed .261/.333/.384 with 124 doubles and 53 home runs. Over the last two campaigns, Wong has appeared in 201 contests and logged a .279/.358/.396 slash line with 29 doubles, 12 home runs and 29 stolen bases. That adds up to a 102 OPS+.
Wong will wear No. 16 for the Brewers.
