Milwaukee sent minor-league reliever Cody Ponce to Pittsburgh in exchange for Lyles, who owns a 5-7 record, 5.36 ERA and 9.8 K/9 in 17 starts (82 1/3 innings) this season.

The deal became official Monday afternoon.

Last season, the Brewers claimed Lyles via trade waivers in early August. Lyles made 11 relief appearances for Milwaukee and allowed six runs in 16 1/3 innings (3.31 ERA). He signed a one-year deal worth just over $2 million with the Pirates in free agency.

Over his nine-year MLB career, Lyles has pitched for five different teams — Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Houston and Colorado — and owns a 26-59 record, 5.29 ERA and 640 strikeouts in 851 innings pitched.

Ponce, the Brewers’ second-round pick in 2015, owns a 1-3 record, 3.29 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings (27 appearances) for Double-A Biloxi this season. The 25-year-old is not listed as one of the top 30 prospects in Milwaukee’s system by MLB Pipeline.
