Cardinals activate Gomber from IL, option Meisinger to Springfield
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Austin Gomber, who was placed on the injured list as a contact tracing precaution, has been activated in advance of the Cardinals’ doubleheader against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday.
Gomber did not test positive for COVID-19 but had been identified as a potential risk via the club’s contact tracing.
The left-hander takes the spot on the active roster previously occupied by right-hander Ryan Meisinger, who was optioned to the club’s alternate training site in Springfield.
The Cardinals tabbed right-hander Jake Woodford as the 29th man for Wednesday’s doubleheader.
