Cardinals announce four-team minor league setup for 2021

Other than being smaller, the St. Louis Cardinals‘ minor league organization won’t be changing substantially in 2021.
The Cardinals announced Wednesday that its four affiliates — the number each major league team will have in the restructuring of the minor leagues — will be ones it already had.
The Cardinals have invited Memphis (Triple-A), Springfield (Double-A), Peoria and Palm Beach to continue to be affiliates. Peoria, however, will switch from Low-A to High-A and Palm Beach from High-A to Low-A.
“The St. Louis Cardinals are pleased to announce today that we have invited Memphis, Springfield, Peoria and Palm Beach to continue their long-standing partnerships with us, as we enter into an exciting new era in MLB player development,” a club statement said.
As part of Major League Baseball’s reorganization of the minor leagues, the four affiliates will be required to agree to MLB’s Player Development Licenses, a step that is expected to happen early in 2021.
Gone from St. Louis’ farm system are State College (Short Season-A) and Johnson City (Rookie).
