Cardinals place Bader on IL, recall rookie OF Lane Thomas from Memphis
Outfielder Harrison Bader, who has been battling a hamstring injury since leaving Saturday’s game against the Reds in Mexico, will battle it for at least a little while longer.
The St. Louis Cardinals placed Bader on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 14, with a right hamstring strain. He was batting .179 with two home runs and five RBIs in 39 at-bats this season.
Taking Bader’s spot on the active roster is rookie outfielder Lane Thomas, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis.
Thomas, 23, is set to make his major league debut whenever manager Mike Shildt puts him in the lineup. Thomas, who bats right-handed, has made six starts in left field and five in center field for the Redbirds this season. He was batting .229 with 5 RBIs in 11 games; toss in his 10 walks and he has a .383 on-base percentage.
Playing for Memphis and Double-A Springfield last season, Thomas led all Cardinals minor league players in home runs (27) and RBIs (88).
