Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer

Summary of role

The Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director will be responsible for strategic direction, growth and implementation of interventions in line with the focus of the organization. S(he) will provide overall leadership for day-to-day activities including business development, fundraising, partnerships and stakeholder engagement, project management and strategic planning. S(he) will also intermediate between implementing partners, donors and Board of Directors.

Reporting to: Board of Directors

Specific Responsibilities

  • Formulating short-mid-long-term strategic direction through engagement with the Board of Directors
  • Overall responsibility for strategy implementation and achieving stated goals and objectives
  • Provide overall leadership, strategic guidance, vision, and management to staff for successful implementation of projects
  • Forge and substantiate strategic alliances with national agencies and organizations, development partners, including proactively seeking opportunities for donor engagements.
  • Proposal development and sundry business development activities
  • Enhance brand image of the organization, engage for visibility and serve as its spokesperson in interactions with various stakeholders
  • Ensure financial sustainability through active Fundraising and Treasury management activities
  • Hiring, mentoring and building a high-performance team, ensuring that the organization’s values are reflected and entrenched in the culture
  • Strengthen internal business processes and corporate governance, and ensure organisations’ compliance with local laws and regulations regarding non-profits
  •  Manage other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors from time to time

 Position Requirements

  • Post-graduate degree or higher in Management, Social Sciences, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in development work, with the last two years in an executive or senior management role.
  • A good understanding of business development, partnership and engagements in development work.
  • Past project management experience, especially in a donor-funded project
