Clemons climbs scoring list as Campbell tops High Point
BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Chris Clemons finished with 27 points, moving into eighth place on the NCAA all-time scoring list, as Campbell topped High Point 61-48 on Thursday night.
Clemens passed Bradley’s Hersey Hawkins (3,008) when he nailed a 3-pointer just 4:10 into the game. Next up for Clemens is Keydren Clark of Saint Peter’s (3,058). Clemens ran his double-figure scoring streak to 109 games, third best in Division I history. Clemens also moved up the made 3-pointers list with 420, sinking six against High Point and passing Davidson’s Steph Curry (414) and East Carolina’s Akeem Richmond (416) for ninth place all-time.
Andrew Eudy had 16 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for Campbell (16-11, 9-4 Big South Conference), which earned its fifth consecutive home victory.
Campbell entered halftime trailing narrowly, 26-25, but the Fighting Camels were able to outscore the Panthers 36-22 in the second half to roll to the victory. The Panthers’ 22 second-half points marked a season low for the team.
Jahaad Proctor had 17 points for the Panthers (14-13, 7-6). Jordan Whitehead added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Ricky Madison had 10 rebounds.
The Fighting Camels evened the season series against the Panthers with the win. High Point defeated Campbell 57-56 on Feb. 7. Campbell takes on Longwood on the road on Saturday. High Point takes on Gardner-Webb at home on Saturday.
