College football odds Week 1: How to Bet Central Michigan-Oklahoma State
Defending Big 12 regular-season champion Oklahoma State will play host to Central Michigan of the Mid-American Conference in the 2022 opener for both teams on Thursday night.
The contest will feature two teams that played in bowl games last season and the Cowboys are seeking revenge from six years ago.
Here’s everything you need from a betting perspective on the Central Michigan-Oklahoma State game, from the point spread, moneyline, total over/under and expert pick (odds via FOX Bet):
RELATED: Top plays from Week 0
Central Michigan @ No. 12 Oklahoma State (7 p.m. ET Thursday, FS1)
Point spread: Oklahoma State -22 (Oklahoma State favored to win by more than 22 points, otherwise Central Michigan covers)
Moneyline: Oklahoma State -1667 favorite to win (bet $10 to win $10.60 total); Central Michigan +900 underdog to win (bet $10 to win $100 total)
Total scoring over/under: 60 points scored by both teams combined
The Chippewas (9-4 in 2021) were 6-0 when they ran for 200 or more yards last season, 14-1 over the past three seasons when eclipsing 200 yards on the ground.
Central Michigan was one of two MAC schools to throw for at least 30 touchdowns last season (31). Daniel Richardson returns at quarterback after throwing for 2,583 yards, 24 TDs and six interceptions last season.
The Cowboys (12-2 in 2021) are 5-1 all-time against MAC schools, with the lone loss against the Chippewas. Oklahoma State matched the school record for wins last season and finished in the Associated Press Top 10 (No. 7) for the first time since 2011. The Cowboys beat five ranked teams last season, tied for third-best in the country.
The all-time series between the teams is 1-1, with the Chippewas winning the previous meeting 30-27 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 2016.
Pick via FOX Sports Betting Analyst Geoff Schwartz:
“Give me the Chippewas to cover this spread in Week 1. Oklahoma State is a solid team and will end up in the thick of the Big 12 title race, but the Cowboys have a ton of production to replace from last season. They lost their two best offensive weapons and seven defensive starters, including their four leading tacklers.
“Central Michigan returns their solid quarterback and MAC Offensive Player of the Year in running back Lew Nichols. They also return a pass rush ranked 25th in sack rate and a defense ranked first in college football in tackles for a loss.
“It’s also worth noting that Oklahoma State has struggled to start the season in these games against lesser foes. The Cowboys had a seven-point win against Missouri State last season, a nine-point win against Tulsa in 2020 and a loss to this Central Michigan team in 2016.”
PICK: Central Michigan (+22 at FOX Bet) to lose by fewer than 22 points (or win outright)
