Coming back to KC: Royals sign Jarrod Dyson to one-year contract
A Royals World Series Champion is making his return to Kansas City. That’s what speed do! It brings you back to play in the city where you won it all.
The Kansas City Royals announced Friday that they signed outfielder Jarrod Dyson to a one-year contract.
Dyson was with the Royals for the first seven years of his career from 2010-2016.
The Royals drafted Dyson in 2006 in the 50th round of the First-Year Player Draft.
Dyson brings his speed with him back to Kansas City, where he ranks sixth all-time in stolen bases with 176.
The 36-year-old outfielder was with the club in 2014 and 2015 when it made back-to-back runs to the World Series, winning it all in 2015.
Dyson scored a memorable, game-winning run in the decisive Game 5 of the 2015 World Series, after he entered the game as a pinch-runner in the 12th inning.
He has played in 21 career playoff games, including 19 with the Royals in that two-year stretch.
Since 2010 Dyson’s 256 career steals are tied for fifth-most in the Majors during that time. He has seven seasons with 20 or more steals, including a career-high 36 stolen bases with the Royals in 2014.
The left-handed hitting outfielder spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox in the 2020 season, appearing in a combined 32 games.
He was traded to Chicago on Aug. 28 and went 3-for-10 (.300) in 11 games with Chicago and appeared off the bench in two of the club’s Wild Card Series games vs. Oakland.
