ECOWAS Parliament was established by the ECOWAS Revised Treaty of 24 July 1993 as one of the Institutions of the Community. The Parliament is the House of Representatives of the peoples of the Community. It is composed of 115 Representatives from the 15 Member States of ECOWAS: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

Role Overview
- Under the supervision of the Principal Officer, Parliamentary Affairs the incumbent shall serve as the administrator, coordinator, and adviser to the Parliamentary Committees to which one is assigned, and to assist the Principal Parliamentary Affairs Officer in managing the business of the Plenary.
Role and Responsibilities
- Assists in preparing the draft agenda of Parliamentary Sessions.
- Assists in drafting minutes of the proceedings of Plenary Sessions and draft reports of Parliamentary Sessions.
- Plans and organises the activities of Committees in liaison with relevant units of the General Secretariat.
- Prepares the draft agenda and draft work programmes of the Committees.
- Prepares draft speeches for the Chairmen of the Committees.
- Conducts research and gathers information and documentation required for the work of the Committees.
- Advises on Parliamentary procedure.
- Prepares draft reports of the meetings of the Committees.
- Proposes conference topics for the deliberations of the Committees.
- Prepares the terms of reference (TOR) for the meetings of the Committees.
- Identifies and contact resource persons for the meetings of the Committees.
- Liaises with the relevant Departments of the ECOWAS Commission responsible for the areas of competence of the Committees to which one is assigned.
- Undertakes studies and research as well as prepare memoranda as may be determined by the Committees, the Secretary-General or the Speaker of Parliament.
- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration or a related field from a recognized University.
- 2 years of progressively responsible professional working experience in political science, political affairs, international relations, law, mediation, conflict resolution, or related area is required;

- Ability to liaise between ECOWAS members and Staff with the government of the country of residence, in focus areas;

- Efficiently retrieves, inputs, edits, formats, transmits and links electronic file data used for analysis and understands data management operations.
- Ability to condense information and/or produce concise summary notes to help others with decision-making, problem solving and/or assessment of work.
- Demonstrated computer skills to communicate using tools, to write and format documents appropriately for presentation, the web, proposals, reports and other documents.
- Ability to proofread, edit and revise documents to ensure they follow standard conventions for punctuation and mechanics and formatted in accordance to ECOWAS communication standards;
- Ability to relay/redirect complete and accurate messages to appropriate persons / departments.
- Proficiency in information communication technologies (ICT);
- Fluency in oral and written expressions in one of the ECOWAS official languages of the Community (English, French & Portuguese). Knowledge of an additional one will be an added advantage.
